WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada-The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the dates for the public open house, dedication and youth devotional for the Winnipeg Manitoba Temple.
Winnipegers and all Manitobans are allowed to attend the free public open house scheduled for Thursday October 22-Saturday October 31, 2020, with the exception of Sunday October 25.
This open house gives people of all faiths the opportunity to tour the temple’s interior and grounds while visitors may also learn more about the importance of these sacred structures.
Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Church’s Quorum of Twelve Apostles will dedicate this temple Sunday November 8 in three sessions, at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm CST.
A youth devotional will be conducted Saturday November 7. This is an opportunity for youth in the area to hear from local Church leaders at a meetinghouse next to the temple.
All dedicatory sessions, as well as the youth devotional, will be broadcast to meetinghouses in the temple district.
Manitoba is the home to more than 4,500 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, consisting of 14 congregations.
Presently, the closest temples for Manitoban Saints are located at Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and Bismarck, N.D.
This temple is located eight miles south (12.9 kilometres) of Winnipeg and upon its completion, will be the 9th temple in Canada.
The others are located in Calgary, Cardston, Edmonton (Alberta), Halifax (Nova Scotia), Montreal (Quebec), Regina (Saskatchewan), Toronto (Ontario) and Vancouver (British Columbia).
This will also be the 169th temple of the Church worldwide.
This temple was announced in April 2011 and ground was broken in December 2016.
