MENDOZA, Argentina-Thursday, on a late spring day in Mendoza, Argentina, a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in the area occurred.
Because of social distancing guidelines enforced by the local government, attendance was limited.
Offering the dedicatory prayer was Elder Allen D. Haynie of the Church’s South America South Area presidency. Elder Haynie was also the presiding authority at this ceremony.
This temple was announced by Church president Russell M. Nelson October 7, 2018 at the conclusion of general conference that afternoon.
This temple will be located in the Mendoza suburb of Las Heras. Plans are also calling for a meetinghouse and patron housing to be constructed on-site.
There are 470,843 Latter-day Saints in Argentina in 78 stakes.
Other Argentinian temples include the Buenos Aires Temple (dedicated 1986; rededicated 2012) and the Cordoba Temple (2015) as well as the Salta Temple (November 2020).
