Wasatch’s Abbie Randall Places 15th At 5-A State Cross Country Meet

SALT LAKE CITY-The Wasatch High School boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Utah High School Activities Association state championship meet Wednesday at Sugarhouse Park. Each classification divided its respective state championship standard 3-minute runs into boys and girls championships.

5-A Boys

3:00 pm

The Wasatch boys’ cross country team finished 18th overall, netting a score of 420.5. The Farmington Phoenix won their first state title in this event, posting a score of 70. Bountiful star junior Dalton Mortensen (15:14.20) won the individual state title.

The Wasps’ star runner in this event was senior Josh Horner (16:39.30) who placed 53rd overall. Senior Bentley Ackerson (17:18.90) finished 95th, while junior Conner Weldon (17:20.90) placed 97th.

Sophomore Jake Giles (17:22.90) finished 100th with freshman Trevor Hardy (17:33.00) placing 111th.

Senior Josh Benson (17:53.40) placed 128th and sophomore Zack Goode (18:03.60) finished 136th overall (18:03.60).

5-A Girls

1:30 pm

The Wasatch girls’ cross country team placed 10th overall with a score of 260. The Springville Red Devils won their second all-time state title with a score of 45. This is the Red Devils’ second all-time state title and their first since 1993.

Woods Cross star junior Carlee Hansen (17:56.50) won the individual state title.

As always, the Wasps were led by their own star junior, Abbie Randall (19:15.00) who placed 15th overall.

Wasatch freshman Allison Munck (20:04.80) placed 45th overall. Freshman Emma Page (20:31.80) finished 66th overall.

Seniors Madelyn King (20:46.40) and Anna Baird (20:46.50) placed 76th and 77th overall, respectively.

Freshman Lillie Randall (21:05.40) placed 90th overall and junior Danielle Krull (21:38.20) finished 107th to round out the Wasps’ participation in this event.
