5-A Boys Golf Tournament

SYRACUSE, Utah-Thursday Wasatch High’s boys’ golf squad concluded its run at the state tournament by placing 10th at the final day of competition at the Glen Eagle Golf Course of Syracuse.

The Wasps posted a collective score of 316.

The state champions were the Skyline Eagles, who posted a score of 279. Farmington placed second, Olympus was third, Corner Canyon finished fourth, Viewmont was fifth, Skyridge was sixth, Springville placed seventh, Bountiful finished eighth and Brighton placed ninth.

The individual state champion was Zack Neff of Olympus, who shot a 139 to galvanize the Titans.

For the Wasps, Kellin Olsen led the way by shooting a 157, tying for 40th overall. Other Wasps to place included Jacob Coopman, who tied for 43rd by shooting a 159, Tyson Clyde, who tied for 61st by shooting a 166, Gavin Scott who finished 72nd by shooting a 177, Jaxson Stoddart, who finished 73rd by shooting a 180 and Tanner Pettingill who finished 73rd by shooting a 189.

Cross Country

SPRINGVILLE, Utah-Thursday, Springville hosted the Region 8 cross country championships which saw the Wasatch High Wasps’ boys and girls teams each have several stellar performers.

For the girls, the host Red Devils took the region crown by scoring 26 points and the boys’ champion was Skyridge, as the Falcons posted 25 points.

The girls’ individual Region 8 champion was Springville’s Heidi Sumsion, posting a time of 17:52.10.

The Wasatch girls placed third overall with 85 points and were led by Abbie Randall, who placed fourth in a time of 18:44.10.

Other Wasps’ girls to place included Anna Baird (15th place, 19:36.80), Hailey Ellis (17th place, 19:42.00), Madelyn King (25th place, 20:18.20), Savanna Dorrough (26th place, 20:23.40), Danielle Krul (27th place, 20:32.30), Brinlee Luster (29th place, 20:35.00) and Anna McCullough (31st place, 20:38.50).

For the boys, Skyridge took the team title with 25 points with Wasatch finishing in sixth, posting 136 points.

The individual boys’ champion was Springville’s Grant Gardner, posting a time of 15:09.60.

The Wasps’ best boys performance came from Mason Heimburger, who placed 17th overall in a time of 16:14.60.

Also placing for the Wasatch boys were Bentley Ackerson (28th place, 16:33.00), Josh Horner (31st place, 16:42.60), Josh Benson (32nd place, 16:47.90), Jake Giles (34th place, 16:57.30), Ben McCullough (41st place, 17:04.40), Braden Patterson (43rd place, 17:05.80) and Conner Weldon (45th place, 17:59.90).
