SALT LAKE CITY-Late Tuesday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released a new volume of the Joseph Smith Papers that includes color photographs and color-coded transcriptions of the Book of Mormon’s earliest transcript.
This new book is entitled: The Joseph Smith Papers: Revelations and Translations, Volume 5: Original Manuscript of the Book of Mormon.
This is also the 23rd of 26 total volumes of the Joseph Smith Papers Project. It is to be completed in the spring of 2023.
Tuesday, at The Church Administration Building on Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, Church President Russell M. Nelson thanked those who made this volume possible.
Among those responsible for the volume are co-editors Royal Skousen and Robin Scott Jensen, former Utah Jazz owner Gail Miller, her late husband Larry H. Miller and her current husband, Kim Wilson.
Pres. Nelson confirmed this volume touches his heart deeply.
Through the years, the Church has produced several sets of photographs of the manuscript. In 1958, the Salt Lake City-based faith photographed the manuscript in black and white before it was conserved and had further deteriorated.
In 2017, the Church History Department used multispectral imaging to better capture the faded text on the fragments.
