SALT LAKE CITY-Earlier this month, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirms the Interreligious Council of Peru met with Peruvian president Pedro Castillo.
Guillermo Estrugo Nery, an area director of communications for the Church and the vice president of the nation’s Interreligious Council, delivered a speech concerning the importance of defending freedom of conscience and religion in the country.
Citing the Articles of Faith of the Salt Lake City-based faith, Nery outlined three of the council’s priorities and requested their consideration by Pres. Castillo and the Peruvian Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.
Several of the Church’s Apostles have also advocated for religious freedom this month. Elder Quentin L. Cook is among them.
On this National Religious Freedom Day, my plea is that all religions work together to defend faith and religious freedom to protect people of diverse faith as well as those of no faith. We must succor, act as a sanctuary, and promulgate religious freedom across the world.
