The Tabernacle Choir Celebrates 90 Years of Broadcasting With Special Concert

SALT LAKE CITY-Saturday, guest performers will join The Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square in a special worldwide broadcast to commemorate 90 years of Music and The Spoken Word.

Members of the choir organization visited with the media Friday to discuss this weekly broadcast which commenced July 15, 1929 at the Tabernacle on Temple Square.

Choir historian Heidi Swinton confirmed “there just isn’t anything like it in the broadcast world.”

This one-hour special broadcast “Music For a Summer Evening: Celebrating 90 Years of Broadcasting,” airs Saturday at 7:00 pm MDT.

The commemorative broadcast will reair Sunday July 19 at 5:00 pm and Saturday July 25 at 10:00 am.

Russell M. Nelson, the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will also share several of his personal experiences with the choir during this broadcast.

The broadcast slated for July 19 will be Broadcast No. 4740 all-time in the choir’s history.
