Ex-Boyfriend Charged With Murder 5 Weeks After Woman Found Dead In Ogden Canyon

OGDEN, Utah-Thursday, 37-year-old Andy Dennis was charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, 30-year-old Lopine “Chynna” Toilolo who was found dead in Ogden Canyon May 12.

Dennis was arrested Wednesday in connection with her death. He was booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of murder and obstruction of justice, per jail records.

In addition to being charged with murder, a first-degree felony, Dennis was charged with two counts of obstructing justice, each second-degree felonies and abuse or desecration of a human body, a third-degree felony, court documents attest.

Toilolo’s father said he was pleased with the verdict, saying there is now justice for his daughter and closure for the family.

Weber County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Cortney Ryan said details would not be released in order to maintain integrity of the case.

He said the case is now in the hands of Weber County Attorney Christopher F. Allred.

Per the affidavit, Dennis and Toilolo had been involved in an incident at Dennis’ Pleasant View home on May 10.

Neighbors reported Toilolo was “yelling, banging on their windows and ringing doorbells” around 4:40 am that morning.

Witnesses reported to investigators that they saw Toilolo return to Dennis’ home and then leave with him in his car.

Family members told detectives Toilolo had texted them the morning of May 10 at 3:00 am, saying she was on her way to them. This turned out to be the last time family members heard from her.

As Dennis was reached, he said Toilolo left his home about 5:00 am on May 10 via an Uber, per the affidavit.

In an initial interview with police, Dennis denied leaving with Toilolo only to change his story, saying he dropped her off in West Jordan.

An autopsy has since ruled the cause of Toilolo’s death as strangulation.

Dennis had previously been arrested and charged with domestic violence in December after punching his girlfriend in the face multiple times. This was per an affidavit filed in Davis County 2nd District Court.

It was not immediately known if Toilolo was the girlfriend in question at this time.

Per court documents filed Wednesday, Dennis was to be detained on a $45,000 bail.
