Angel Moroni Removed From Salt Lake Temple

SALT LAKE CITY-Monday, the Angel Moroni was removed from the Salt Lake Temple as part of its renovation.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spokesperson Daniel Woodruff confirmed that Monday morning, crews working on the temple at Temple Square are working to remove the Angel Moroni statue and capstone which stand atop the Salt Lake Temple.

This has been planned for a while as part of the temple’s renovation. However, the timeline was expedited because of the earthquake that struck Salt Lake City in March.

The statue and capstone will then be preserved and refurbished before re-installation at a later date.

Woodruff also said work is continuing to remove stones from the upper spire of the temple for preservation during the project.

These stones shall also be reinstalled in the future, Woodruff confirmed.
