Wasatch County Search & Rescue Finds Overdue Party

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah-At 10: 15 pm Saturday evening, Wasatch County Search & Rescue was paged for an overdue party consisting of four men in the Trail Creek Area, the southernmost point in Wasatch County.

Most of the day, four dirt bikers had been riding when they encountered snow on the trail.

The group then became separated and one of the men called his wife, reporting the party was “lost, tired, and almost all out of gas.”

They knew precisely what trail they were on and which direction they were headed.

At 12:15 am Sunday morning, Wasatch County SAR crews found two men in the party had walked 5.3 miles, per Fitbit, after being unable to ride any further.

They were cold and thirsty. They were able to give a general direction of their travel and a Department of Public Safety helicopter was dispatched an hour and a half prior to this. The helicopter securely located the other two men in five minutes.

Everyone in the party was safely transported back to their vehicles and all crews were back in Heber City by 2:00 am Sunday morning.

Wasatch County SAR thanks DNR, Fish and Wildlife, DPS, their deputies and dispatch for this search.

Furthermore, we thank Wasatch County SAR for their selfless service in keeping the community safe.
