Utah Tourism Is Losing $20 Million Daily

SPRINGDALE, Utah-In information released this week, Utah officials believe the Beehive State is missing out on $20 million daily in tourism.

Vicki Varela of the Utah Office of Tourism suggests it may take until 2021 for tourism businesses to get back to 2019 revenues.

As of 2018, visitors to the Beehive State were spending an estimated $9.75 billion annually.

A survey conducted among nearly 500 tourism-related businesses in Utah from April 27-May 1 confirmed nearly 72 percent of these businesses continued revenue declines.

Furthermore, this survey confirmed 40 percent of these businesses are anticipating layoffs or a reduction in pay or hours.

The survey also stated confidence in this industry in Utah is “pessimistic” for the next 12 months with improvement by the next two or three years.

Varela said the immediate crux of the matter consists of making state and federal aid accessible for these businesses.

She expressed her hopes that Utah can emerge from this situation stronger and with a more potent appreciation for outdoor recreation.
