SALT LAKE CITY-Monday, as Utah ensues in the moderate risk zone for COVID-19, state epidemiologist Dr. Angela C. Dunn addressed the media at the State Capitol Building with the latest coronavirus statistics.
Presently, there are 5,317 positive tests for COVID-19 in the Beehive State. This is an increase of 142 positive tests from Saturday-Sunday but represents a -52 decrease in net positive cases over the course of the past 24 hours.
There have been 124,661 total tests administered for COVID-19 in Utah, a net increase of 2,557 from Saturday-Sunday.
Because of the moderate increase in those tested, this skewed the statistics slightly, causing the positive test percentage to increase to 4.265 percent. Furthermore, 5.55 percent of Utahns tested in the past 24 hours tested positive for COVID-19.
There have been 441 hospitalizations in Utah from the disease. This is an increase of 5 over the past 24 hours but there are no new deaths. This number remains at 50.
Wasatch County presently has 165 positive tests for COVID-19. This is an increase of six positive tests over the course of the past 24 hours.
Dunn, in making her succinct comments, said community spread of COVID-19 in the Beehive State has plummeted to 11 percent.
She did cite that San Juan Public Health of Blanding is having a tremendous problem as Navajo Nation cases in the Beehive State have ballooned to 116 cases, 12 hospitalizations and 2 deaths.
She confirmed mobile-testing is being employed to assist Navajo Nation with their spikes of COVID-19.
Dunn said the Utah Department of Health will be monitoring tourists who visit Utah once restrictions start loosening up.
She confirmed that this will be a particular emphasis.
She stated that specific metrics will be finalized as of Tuesday and that high-risk populations need to stay inside as much as possible.
The next briefing will occur Wednesday.
