SALT LAKE CITY-The Utah Division of Motor Vehicles announced it would be reopening lobbies at locations across the state beginning May 1.
However, residents must make an appointment ahead of time, per a statement released by the DMV Wednesday.
DMV lobbies in Utah have been closed because of the coronavirus pandemic and only a handful of them have drive-thru service available.
Most services can be done on the state’s DMV Web site.
Drivers may renew their vehicles, change addresses, order license plates, request refunds, report a sold vehicle, renew a disabled placard, get vehicle renewal information and set up email renewal reminders online.
However, there are instances that require an in-person visit, such as transferring a title, impound release and reinstatement of insurance.
There were enough Utahns who had to use in-person services recently that the South Valley DMV of Draper has had an influx of vehicles in its drive-thru.
Many residents waited for up to eight hours at the location on certain days and some arrived as early as 1:30 am in order to be at the front of the line.
The Salt Lake City, South Valley, Farmington, Ogden and Provo locations will open Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm.
