WEST JORDAN, Utah-Authorities say they continue to search for a suspect after a double homicide left two dead in West Jordan.
Police stated the victims are a husband and wife. They believe whoever shot and killed them forced his or her way into the home near 6920 South and 3200 West around 1:00 am.
Authorities initially responded to the area after receiving a call concerning possible gunshots at 1:15 am Saturday morning. They found three children under the age of five inside, but unhurt.
There was no immediate word on a motive of other details available.
Neighbors said they heard a fight break out before any shots were fired.
No motive has been reached, but officers said they have leads in the case.
Officials said they don’t have a description of the subject, but they ask for the public’s assistance in gathering information.
Sergeant J.C. Holt of the West Valley City Police Department said the suspect may have a knife wound based on the evidence at the scene. Holt further said they found a man in the backyard who was deceased and it appeared he suffered at least one gunshot wound.
Police found the female victim inside the home and Holt said it appears a door had been kicked in at the home.
Holt believes those in the neighborhood have no cause for concern at this time.
The victims were identified as 31-year-old Tony Butterfield and 30-year-old Katherine Butterfield.
Police said they do not yet have a motive for the attack and do not have a criminal history with the house or the victims.
