4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Magna

MAGNA, Utah-Tuesday evening, the Salt Lake Valley was struck by another earthquake as a 4.2 magnitude tremor occurred at 8:56 pm.

The United States Geological Survey reports the shake occurred in northeast Magna.

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations stated this aftershock is part of the Magna sequence.

This Magna sequence commenced March 18 with the epicenter 3.1 miles away from Magna in the Salt Lake Valley.

As of April 13, nearly 1,000 aftershocks were felt as part of the sequence although not all of them were strong enough for people to take notice.

After the 5.7 quake, the state of Utah set up an earthquake information site for frequently asked questions and preparedness information: earthquakes.utah.gov.

A map of Tueday’s aftershock shows the approximate epicenter of the aftershock located north of 2100 South and east of 7200 West.

The shake was also felt at the Salt Lake County Jail, located at 3415 S. 900 West in Salt Lake City.
