WEST VALLEY CITY-Police have identified the victim of a Saturday night crash after his car split in three when he ran into a pole on Redwood Road.
19-year-old Jesus Torres is the victim with the incident occurring near Parkway Boulevard per Lieutenant Justin Wyckoff.
Calls came into dispatch that a car had been traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control while switching lanes, ultimately crashing into a telephone pole.
Other callers said that there were possibly two deaths from the incident and others reported to call about a fight they were witnessing.
Wyckoff said upon arrival, there was no fight ongoing and there had only been one death.
Torres’ vehicle had pieces of it end up on the building, in the parking lot of an apartment complex and the engine also became separated from the vehicle.
Wyckoff said the driver was ejected, dying at the scene.
The first reports indicated another car had been involved and that perhaps the two vehicles were racing.
Wyckoff stated that this does not seem to have been the case as Torres was going at the proper speed limit, per further reports.
