SMITHFIELD, Utah-An elderly man has died after being hit by a car while crossing a street in Cache County.

Saturday morning at 4:50 am, the man was killed at 100 South and Main in Smithfield.

The Smithfield City Police Department reports 77-year-old Smithfield resident Larold Nyman was walking westbound across Main Street when he was hit by a white sedan headed northbound on Main Street.

Authorities said the driver did not see Nyman because of low visibility.

Medical personnel performed lifesaving measures at the scene but were unable to revive him.

The driver was not injured in the crash. Officials said there was no evidence of impairment on the driver’s part.
