SALT LAKE CITY-Tuesday, Utah state epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn gave the latest report on how COVID-19 is affecting the Beehive State.
Dunn confirmed that the fifth death related to coronavirus in the state occurred as well as 81 new cases of COVID-19 since Tuesday.
Dunn said this was a 10 percent in cases and the state is maintaining a 5 percent positive test rate.
Dunn revealed that the first case from the Central Utah Public Health Department had reported its first case of the disease Tuesday. This is a man over 60 in Millard County who traveled out of the country and he is staying at home, recuperating.
While this number has not yet been recorded by the state, it confirms that all health departments in the state have at least one confirmed positive test.
Dunn confirmed that if the spread of the coronavirus stays at its current rate, the state health care system should not be overwhelmed.
This is a potential concern that has been expressed by Utah Governor Gary Herbert several times.
Dunn said it’s too early to tell if the curve is flattening at this stage.
She said it will take a few weeks of testing data to make this determination.
