(Heber City, UT) — The Wasatch County Council says they’re open to the idea of their sheriff taking a leave of absence. That’s what they told KUTV after a closed-door meeting. Sheriff Jared Rigby was indicted by a grand jury that’s looking into possible misconduct related to the Kouri Richins murder case. Much of the grand jury case is sealed, but it is known that Rigby is facing a felony charge of obstruction of justice and a lesser charge of making a false written statement. The sheriff leaves office in January, so it’s not clear if he’ll step down any sooner. Because he’s elected, it’s difficult for the county to force him out.
