Utah Valley University Releases Review Of Kirk Shooting

(Orem, UT) — Utah Valley University has released an independent review of its planning and response in the wake of the murder of Charlie Kirk. The report found that, quote, “at no time during the events leading up to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, or in its aftermath, did any employee or agent of UVU act in bad faith or in willful and wanton disregard for the safety of others.” However the review did point out inconsistencies, finding that the university was unprepared to host high-profile guests, and didn’t issue a campus-wide alert following the deadly shooting. The report recommends the university work on better threat intelligence assessments and stronger coordination with law enforcement.  Charlie Kirk’s family is responding to the release. They filed a notice preserving their right to sue UVU earlier this month, claiming the university’s alleged “security failures” led to the murder. Lawyer Brett Parkinson released a statement Friday saying the report confirms their claims that “UVU security was woefully understaffed and unprepared to manage the obvious risks associated with an event of this nature.” He went on to add “The buck stopped with UVU leadership and law enforcement. Justice for Charlie and his family requires true accountability for UVU’s fatal shortcomings that day.”
