HEBER CITY, Utah-Per a report from the Wasatch Wave, more than 230 soldiers representing one of the Utah National Guard’s aviation units was deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Spartan Shield from the Army Aviation support facility of West Jordan June 15.
These soldiers represent the 2nd battalion, 211th aviation.
This will be a year-long deployment and Heber Valley residents involved in this service include Connor McFee, Phoebe Straughan and married couple Andy and Kylie Tindell Avella.
Prior to their departure, there was a 10:00 am ceremony which saw Utah Guard Adjutant General Major General Jefferson S. Burton speak along with leadership from the deploying battalion.
After the proceedings, a segment of this unit boarded their Black Hawk helicopters and flew to Fort Hood, Texas for additional training prior to flying overseas.
June 16, the remainder of the unit members departed to join their battalion in Texas.
