Utah Senators Push Limiting Antiquities Act

(Washington, DC) — Utah Senators Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee are pushing legislation to limit executive powers after President Obama’s designation of the Bears Ears National Monument. It proposes requiring state approval and authorization by Congress to approve a new national monument site. If passed, it would have no impact on earlier designations. Obama’s national monument designation of the Bears Ears wilderness preserves current mining and grazing rights, and protects cultural sites.
