Utes’ Jayson Rose Named Preseason NCBWA All-American

DALLAS – Utah junior pitcher Jayson Rose has been selected as a preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, announced by the organization on Tuesday. Rose is a second-team selection.

An All-Pac-12 selection last season, Rose set the Utah record for strikeouts in a season with 106 which ranked second in the Pac-12. He was the only league pitcher to have over 100 strikeouts in the regular season (102). Rose held opponents to a .205 batting average, which ranked sixth in the Pac-12, and his 2.89 ERA was 10th in the league. He went 8-5 in 16 starts on the year. Highlights included a one-hit shutout over UC Riverside and 10 strikeout games against College World Series participant Arizona and Saint Mary’s. He also earned wins over Kansas, Oregon, UCLA, Stanford and California.

Rose and the Utes are coming off the 2016 Pac-12 Championship and open the season on Feb. 17 at CSU Bakersfield.
