Utah’s Simmons Named Pac-12 Baseball Player of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO – Utah senior Hunter Simmons has been named as the Pac-12 Player of the Week for games between Feb. 20-26, the league announced today.

Utah went 3-1 over the week with games against Nebraska and Ohio State. Simmons hit .563 (9-for-16) with six RBI over the four games. He went 3-for-5 in game one against Ohio State with an RBI and followed with a 4-for-4 performance with three RBI – including a two-RBI single in the seventh to give Utah the lead – in game one against Nebraska. Simmons was 2-for-4 with a first-inning RBI to give Utah a 2-0 lead in game two against Ohio State. In game two against Nebraska, he drove in one of Utah’s three runs and also had a key defensive play on a squeeze play late in the game to prevent a run from scoring.

It is the second time Simmons has earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors. He was a selection on May 9, 2016, after games against Washington State.

Simmons is hitting .323 for the year and is tied for the team lead with seven RBI.

Utah (5-2) returns to the diamond this weekend for a four-game series at UTSA beginning Friday, March 3.
