PROVO, Utah (AP)-Friday, numerous track and field squads throughout the Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network coverage area met at Robison Track on the campus of Brigham Young University for the annual BYU Invitational which runs through Saturday.
Through one day of competition on the famed blue track, the girls’ standings are led by the Sugar-Salem Diggers of Sugar City, Idaho with 26 points. Among Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network teams, North Sevier’s girls lead the way in seventh currently with 12.5 points.
The boys’ standings are led by Class 5-A power Davis as the Darts have 27 points, while Delta is tied for second with Sugar-Salem with 25 points through the first day of competition.
Individual titles have been won by North Summit’s Sadie Sargent in the girls’ 3200-meter run (1-A/2-A division) and Millard’s Conner Cox in the boys’ 3200-meter run. Manti’s Jordan Cheney placed sixth overall in the event.
Meanwhile, Kapri Orton of Panguitch won the girls’ high jump with a leap of 5 feet 1 inch in the 1-A/2-A division while Austin Carter of Beaver won the boys’ 1-A/2-A division title in the shot put with a toss of 55-06.25 feet.
Jantsen Manis of Delta won the boys’ 1-A/2-A discus crown with a toss of 151-01.50 feet and Beaver’s Linley White won the girls’ javelin title for 1-A/2-A with a toss of 127-00.50 feet.
The rest of the activities resume Saturday.
