Track Roundup: 5/20, Championship Day

PROVO, Utah (AP)-Saturday, with considerably warmer temperatures at the UHSAA track and field state championships at Brigham Young University’s Robison Track, numerous state championships were won, including among those in the Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network coverage area.

Winning the 1-A girls title was Panguitch with 111 points, easily besting second-place Parowan with 71.5 points. Milford finished third with 60 points and Altamont was fourth with 47 points.

The 1-A boys’ championship was also won by Panguitch as they amassed 111 points to best Valley, who finished second with 64, just as was the case in boys’ basketball. Monticello, Milford, Parowan and Wayne rounded out the top six.

The 2-A boys title was won by Delta, easily overpowering second-place Millard 128-72 with Beaver finishing third at 60 points while Manti was fourth with 54 points. Emery and North Summit rounded out the top six.

The 2-A girls title was no contest as North Summit blew away second-place North Sevier, 160-64. Enterprise finished third with 55 points while American Leadership and Delta tied for fourth with 51 points apiece.

In 3-A Desert Hills bested second place Cedar 164-130 with Dixie a far cry behind with 49 points. The 3-A boys title was also won by Desert Hills with 131 points while Hurricane finished second with 76 points. Stansbury, Morgan, Cedar and Richfield rounded out the top six. Juab placed 10th with 23 points. Juab’s girls finished 12th with 15 points and North Sanpete’s girls tied for 17th with three points.

The Springville boys won the 4-A state title with 70.5 points and Olympus, despite beating the Red Devils in the 4 x 400, finished second with 66.75 points.

The 5-A boys title was won by Davis, edging rival Syracuse including a thrilling finish in the 4 x 400 won by the Darts. This enabled Davis to get past Syracuse 114-102 with record-setting American Fork finishing third at 97 points.

Incidentally, Box Elder won the 4-A girls title, overpowering second-place Orem 101-55, but in 5-A there was some drama as the Davis girls outlasted Syracuse 88-80.5

In the 4-A girls’ 3200-meter run, Alison Pray of Salem Hills was the first track champion of championship day, wining the title in 10:52.99.

In the 3-A girls’ 3200-meter run, Cedar’s prestigious sophomore Mic Webster, earned the title in a time of 10:52.57 and in 2-A, North Summit’s Sadie Sargent won the title with Maggie Zwahleln, her teammate, finishing second. Manti’s Madison Norris placed third, with Beaver’s Samantha Williams finishing fourth and Sheilah Cheruiyot of Wasatch Academy placing fifth.

The 1-A girls’ discus champion was Rich’s Amberlee Smith, posting a toss of 92-06.25 feet with Hannah Leiataua of Monticello placig second. Jonee Holman of Panguitch placed third, Ashtyn Spencer of Duchesne was fourth and Abbey Blevins of Panguitch finished fifth.

The 2-A boys’ shot put champion is Beaver’s Austin Carter with a toss of 50-10.75 feet with Jantsen Manis of Delta placing second. Peter Shumway of San Juan was third, Ty Mecham of Emery was fourth and Delta’s Brandon Atkinson finished fifth.

The 1-A girls’ champion in the 3200-meter run was the decorated Bailey Wall of Tintic, winning her third individual state title for the Miners thus far at this meet. Taylia Norris of Panguitch finished second.

The 5-A girls’ champion in the 3200-meter run was Whitney Rich of Bingham in a time of 10:39.28.

Aidan Troutner of Timpview was the 4-A boys’ 3200-meter run champion in 9:03.50 with Ogden’s Travis Feeny, Olympus’ Nate Osterstock and Timpanogos’ Joe Benson rounding out the top four.

Dylan Clements of Cedar won the 3-A boys’ long jump with a leap of 22-04.50 with Jacob Mpungi of Pine View placing second and Richfield star Josh Thomas placed third overall.

The 1-A girls’ discus champion was Kathleen Tomon of Saint Joseph with a toss of 123-09 feet. Tabiona’s Gracie Rhoades placed second with Karlee Eyre and Jonee Holman of Panguitch finishing third and fourth, respectively.

The 3-A boys’ 3200-meter champion was Hurricane’s Caleb Armstrong, edging Cedar’s Jensen Lambert, 9:21.46 to 9:22.31 while in 2-A, Millard’s Conner Cox took the championship in a time of 9:36.69. Dj Matthews of Summit Academy was second with Ryan Lewis of Grand placing third and Manti’s Jordan Cheney finishing fourth.

In 1-A, the boys’ 3200-meter champion is Monticello’s Adam Bunker, putting the 7,070-foot elevation he runs at in training, to good use, posting a time of 10:15.26. Altamont’s Cody Layton placed second with Spencer Jarvis of Piute finishing third. Hunter Lorenz of Parowan was fourth with Jonah Schoppe of Panguitch placing fifth.

In the 5-A boys’ 3200-meter run, American Fork’s Casey Clinger set a new state record in a time of 8:57.90 in what was the fastest heat ever run in this event in 5-A track and field history. Talon Hull of Weber gave Clinger chase, running 8:57.95. This was easily the most exciting event of the meet to this point. American Fork’s McKay Johns placed third overall, and his time of 9:01.26 broke the old state record.

The 1-A girls’ 100-meter hurdles championship was won by Milford’s Emily Barnes in 16.20 seconds with Panguitch’s Kapri Orton, second at 16.37 seconds. Altamont’s Tiana Nielsen placed third with Alexi Thatcher of Parowan finishing fourth and Madi Syrett of Bryce Valley finishing fifth.

In 2-A, the 100-meter hurdles champion was Gunnison’s Kate Sorensen in 14.52 seconds with American Leadership’s Stephanie Tervort and Kimball Clements finishing second and third, respectively. Audri Richins of North Summit was fourth and Sidney Hare of Rowland Hall placed fifth.

The 3-A 100-meter hurdles champion was Dixie’s Starlee Woodbury in a time of 14.90 seconds with Desert Hills’ Kaylee Carter placing second and Hannah Sobel of Cedar placed third.

The 1-A boys’ state javelin champion is Panguitch’s Trey Barney, posting a toss of 169-02 feet with Chris Melling of West Ridge placing second and Mason Morgan of Piute finishing third.

The 2-A girls’ discus title was won by Ashlin Blonquist of North Summit with a toss of 96-03 feet, while Emery’s Sam Morgan was second and Brecklyn Murdock of North Summit finished third. Brinley Henrie of Delta placed fourth.

The 3-A boys’ shot put title was won by Park City’s Elijah Alford with a toss of 50-07 feet while Robert Campbell of Hurricane finished second and Connor Ware of Grantsville placed third.

In the boys’ 110-meter high hurdles in 1-A, Tabiona’s Brennan Wagner placed first with Danny Donlevy of Saint Joseph finishing second and Tyrel Henrie and Kanyon Lamb of Panguitch, placing third and fourth, respectively.

Taylor MacDonald of Beaver placed first in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles in 2-A in 14.83 seconds while Eisley Scholes of North Summit was second and Daycen Fowles of Delta placed third. Parker Grajek of South Summit was fourth and Millard’s Wyatt Fullmer finished fifth.

Carter Reynolds of Desert Hills won the boys’ 3-A 110-meter hurdles title in 14.75 seconds, placing just ahead of Josh Thomas of Richfield who was second in 15.03 seconds. Trenton Mauer of Cedar was third and Desert Hills’ Tate Denos finished fourth.

In the 1-A girls’ 100-meter dash, McKinley Gallyer of Altamont placed first with Parowan’s Autumn Rogerson finishing second. Shantae Miller of Panguitch was third and Tiana Nielsen of Altamont placed fourth.

Jaslyn Gardner of Enterprise won the 2-A girls’ 100-meter dash, setting a new state record in a time of 11.89 seconds. Ashlin Blonquist and Rachael Richins of North Summit finished second and third, respectively.

Starlee Woodbury of Dixie won the 3-A girls’ 10-meter dash in 12.47 seconds while Julia Hunt of Cedar and Sami Oblad of Stansbury placed second and third, respectively.

Max Hedgelin of Monticello won the boys’ 1-A 100-meter dash in 11.28 seconds with Sommy Achebo of Mount Vernon placing second and Roman Platt of Bryce Valley finished third. Cameron Franklin of Valley finished fourth overall.

Delta’s Dallin Draper won the boys’ 100-meter dash in 2-A in a swift 10.88 seconds while Braidin Ivie of Emery placed second and Millard’s Turner Koyle was third, followed by Ron Esplin of Enterprise, placing fourth.

The boys’ 3-A 100-meter dash was won by Desert Hills’ Bradley Earl in 10.91 seconds, edging Keivontae Washington of Snow Canyon. Trey Winget of Desert Hills placing third.

In the girls’ 1-A 4 x 100 relay, Panguitch took the crown in 52.66 seconds with Duchesne placing second and Tabiona at third.

The girls’ 2-A 4 x 100 relay saw North Summit prevail with the state crown in 48.33 seconds. Delta was second, with Gunnison, North Sevier and Millard finishing third through fifth respectively.

In 3-A, the Desert Hills girls took the title, followed by Cedar, Bear River and Dixie, second through fourth, respectively.

Panguitch’s boys won the 1-A boys’ 4 x 100 title in a time of 45.01 seconds while Duchesne was second, with Monticello and Milford rounding out the top four.

In 2-A, Grand’s boys won the 4 x 100 title in a time of 45.42 seconds with South Sevier, North Sevier and Layton Christian rounding out the top four spots.

The 3-A boys saw Desert Hills win the boys’ 4 x 100, with Stansbury, Snow Canyon and Ridgeline rounding out the top four.

In the 1-A girls high jump, Monticello’s Makayla Sheeran takes the title with a leap of 4-09 feet.

The 3-A girls’ discus was won by Kaelie Morris of Ben Lomond with a toss of 119-07.50 feet while Elly Williams of Desert Hills was second and Juab’s Emily Nelson placed third. Samantha Crane of Desert Hills was fourth.

In the girls’ 400-meter dash in 1-A, Milford’s Emily Barnes took the title with Autumn Rogerson of Parowan placing second. Lauren Pelfreyman of EskDale was third with Parowan’s Emmy Evans finishing fourth and Bryce Valley’s Danielle Brinkerhoff placing fifth.

The 2-A girls’ 400-meter dash champion was North Sevier’s Peyton Torgerson with Madeline Pruden of American Leadership and Madeline Birk of North Summit placing second and third respectively. Jade Wimmer of Gunnison placed fourth overall in the event.

Sami Oblad of Stansbury placed first in 3-A in the 400-meter dash with Cedar’s Jasie York and Rachael Hunt placing second and third, respectively.

The 1-A boys’ 400-meter dash title was won by Valley’s Cameron Franklin with Owen Sullivan of Oakley finishing second. Jared Wright of Saint Joseph was third, Jesse Wall of Tintic placed fourth and Panguitch’s Chasyn Campbell finished fifth.

Turner Koyle of Millard bested the swift Dallin Draper of Delta, 49.14-49.44 to win the 2-A boys’ 400-meter dash with Tristen Woolstenhulme of North Summit placing third.

In the boys’ 2-A javelin championship, Jack Dutson of Delta took the crown with a toss of 172-08.50 feet. Caleb Koopmans of Enterprise was second with Max Asper of North Sevier finishing third. Chase Jewkes of Emery was fourth and Truman Alder of Manti placed fifth.

Emily Barnes of Milford won the 300-meter hurdles title for the girls with Madeline Holl of Saint Joseph placing second and Panguitch’s Kapri Orton finishing third. Bailey Wall of Tintic was fourth.

For the girls, the 300-meter hurdles in 2-A were won by Gunnison’s Kate Sorensen with Stephanie Tervort and Kimball Clements of American Leadership finishing second and third respectively. Ellie Shurtliff of Enterprise placed fourth.

In the 3-A girls’ 300-meter hurdles, Kaylee Carter of Desert Hills won the crown with Julia Hunt of Cedar placing third and Dixie’s Elizabeth Durant placing third.

For the boys in the 300-meter hurdles, the 1-A championship was won by Kanyon Lamb of Panguitch in 41.19 seconds while Brennan Wagner of Tabiona was second and Ethan Guymon of Parowan placed third.

The 2-A boys’ 300-meter hurdles championship was won by Taylor MacDonald of Beaver while Jaymen Brough of Delta was second and Cooper Parry of Manti placed third. Parker Grajek of South Summit finished fourth.

In 3-A, Carter Reynolds of Desert Hills was the 3-A boys 300-meter hurdles champion, with Josh Thomas of Richfield placing second. Dylan Clements of Cedar finished third overall.

The 2-A girls’ high jump title was won by South Sevier’s Mackenzie Jones with a leap of 5 feet 4 inches.

In the 1-A girls’ 800-meter run, Panguitch’s Taylia Norris took the title in a time of 2:28.71 with Parowan’s Aubrey Pickett finishing second and Kamaile Wickel of Duchesne placed third. Aliza Woolsey of Milford and Piute’s Emily Morgan finished fourth and fifth, to round things out.

The 3-A boys javelin was won by Grantsville’s Gavin Eyre with a toss of 181-07.50 feet while Juab’s Aaron Clark placed second and Ben Lomond’s Kade Harrop finished third overall. Jakota Snow of Juab finished sixth overall in the event.

In the 1-A boys’ 800-meter run, Bryson Barnes of Milford took the state title, running 2:01.06. Austin Dean of Valley placed second with Manila’s Jonah Gonder finishing third and Panguitch’s Trevor Wolfley placing fourth overall.

Millard’s Conner Cox completed the 2-A boys’ long distance races sweep as he earned the 800-meter run title in a time of 1:57.37. Dj Matthews of Summit Academy placed second with Delta’s Dax Brough and Jared Grant of South Sevier placing third and fourth, respectively.

Brennan Wagner of Tabiona won the 1-A boys long jump championship with a leap of 20-11.25 feet with Wyatt Van Orden of Wayne finishing second and Cole Wilson of Milford placing third. Bryce Valley’s Roman Platt was fourth overall and Austyn Brinkerhoff, also of Bryce Valley, finished fifth in the event.

Sadie Sargent of North Summit won the 2-A girls’ 800-meter run title with Madeline Norris of Maeser Prep placing second and Samantha Williams of Beaver finished third while North Sevier’s Peyton Torgerson was fourth.

Kaysie Klemic of Cedar placed third with Desert Hills’ Laynee Wells finishing second and Jasie York and Mic Webster, each of Cedar, finished third and fourth, respectively in the 3-A girls’ 800-meter run.

In the boys’ 3-A 800-meter run, Caden Armstrong of Hurricane was first with Caleb Armstrong, his teammate placing second. Ethan Hurst of Bear River finished third with Jonathan Monsen of Richfield checking in at sixth place.

The boys’ 2-A pole vault championship was won by Manti’s Austin Robinson at a leap of 11 feet, by virtue of he being the only competitor in the event.

McKinley Gallyer of Altamont won the 1-A girls’ 200-meter dash title with a leap of 26.34 seconds with Emily Barnes of Milford finishing second, Autumn Rogerson of Parowan placing third and Panguitch’s Shantae Miller finishing fourth.

The 2-A girls’ 200-meter dash title was won by Jaslyn Gardner of Enterprise with North Summit’s Ashlin Blonquist finishing second and Kate Sorensen of Gunnison placing third. Rachael Richins of North Summit was fourth.

The 3-A girls’ 200-meter dash crown was won by Stansbury’s Sami Oblad in a time of 25.29 while Julia Hunt of Cedar placed second and Desert Hills’ Kaylee Carter was third.

The 1-A boys’ 200-meter dash title was won by Max Hedgelin of Monticello in 22.83 seconds while Valley’s Cameron Franklin placed second and Roman Platt of Bryce Valley finished third. Escalante’s Kai Griffin put forth a strong showing, finishing in fourth.

In 2-A, Dallin Draper of Delta won the boys’ 200-meter dash crown in 21.98 seconds with Braiden Ivie of Emery finishing second and Turner Koyle of Millard placed third. Emery’s Logan Cox finished fourth.

In 3-A, Bradley Earl of Desert Hills completed his sprint sweep as he won the 200-meter dash, besting Skyler Averett of Ridgeline and Keivontae Washington of Snow Canyon, who placed third.

In the 1-A boys’ shot put, Valley’s Eli Esplin took the crown, posting a toss of 48-03.25 feet while Tavae Pei of Wayne placed second. Steven Skewes of Milford finished third with Christopher Keller of Milford finishing fourth and Panguitch’s Trey Barney placed fifth.

Cole Marshall of Beaver won the boys’ 2-A long jump crown with a leap of 21-04.25 feet with Manti’s Izaak Butler finishing second and Sam Hatch of American Preparatory placed third. Calvin Hunsaker of North Summit was fourth while Tyler Marshall of Millard placed fifth.

In the 3-A girls’ high jump, Stansbury’s Sami Oblad won with a leap of 5-7 with Morgan Myers and Jessica Harris of Desert Hills placing second and third respectively. Richfield’s Shandi Bastian finished fourth overall.

Duchesne’s girls won the 4 x 400 relay title in 1-A, besting Panguitch, 4:20.60-4:23.62, while Parowan finished third, Rich in fourth and Piute in fifth.

North Summit’s girls won the 4 x 400 relay title at in 2-A at 4:05.40 with Delta placing second while Maeser was third, Millard was fourth and North Sevier placed fifth.

In the 3-A girls’ 4 x 400 relay, Cedar took the state title as the Lady Reds ran a 3:59.78 time with Richfield placing second, Park City finishing third and Bear River, Hurricane and Juab finishing fourth-sixth respectively.

Milford’s boys won the 4 x 400 championship with Panguitch placing second while Parowan, Wayne, Duchesne and Monticello rounded out the top six.

In 2-A, the 4 x 400 for the boys was won by North Summit at 3:28.72 while Delta placed second, South Summit was third, Manti placed fourth and Grand was fifth.

In 3-A, the 4 x 400 was won by Canyon View in a time of 3:23.45. Stansbury was second, Morgan finished third while Desert Hills, Hurricane and Bear River rounded out the top 6.
