SALINA, Utah (AP)-Jantsen Manis of Delta won the boys’ discus crown with a toss of 148-10 feet as the Rabbits won the boys’ title at the Burr Invitational Saturday at North Sevier High School.
Amid rainy skies, Delta’s boys amassed 116 points, getting the best of second-place Grand with 100 points. Beaver’s boys placed fourth with 68 points and Manti was fifth with 59 points.
In other events for the boys, Grand won the medley relay in a time of 3:53.68 while Tabiona’s Brennan Wagner won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet. Beaver’s Taylor MacDonald swept the boys’ hurdles, winning both the 110 and 300-meter competitions, as well as the high jump, leaping 6 feet.
Beaver’s Austin Carter won the boys’ shot put title with a toss of 56-01 feet with swift-footed Delta sprinter Dallin Draper winning the 100 and 200-meter dash titles.
Grand’s Ryan Lewis won the boys’ triple crown in distance races, posting titles in the 3200, 1600 and 800-meter runs, helping the Red Devils earn their second-place finish.
Finally, Tristen Woolstenhulme of North Summit took the boys’ 400-meter title in a time of 51.89 seconds while Carbon’s boys took the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay titles.
For the girls, the Manti medley team took the crown in a time of 4:36.84 with Delta’s Teanette Almanza won the shot put crown with a toss of 33.06-25 feet.
Wayne’s Brynnli Nelson won the javelin title with a toss of 110-05 feet while Carbon’s Sarah Ohlwiler won the girls’ 100-meter hurdles crown and Emily Barnes of Milford took the crown in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles.
Isabell Hightower of North Sanpete won the girls’ 100-meter title while Kate Sorensen of Gunnison won the 200-meter crown, making up for her close loss to Ohlwiler in the 100-meter hurdles.
Tabiona’s Gracie Rhoades won the girls’ discus title with a toss of 99-04.50 feet and Sadie Crompton of Carbon won the 1600-meter run crown.
Manti’s Madison Norris won the girls’ 3200-meter run title, while Peyton Torgerson of North Sevier took the 800-meter run crown.
The Carbon girls won the 4 x 100 meter relay title with North Summit taking the title in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
Finally, on her home track, North Sevier’s Mayci Torgersen (Peyton’s younger sister and comparably talented in all sports) won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 1 inches.
ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP)-The Desert Hills boys and girls track teams amassed clean sweeps of the team titles Saturday at the Pine View Invitational, concluding one of the best annual track and field meets on the Utah high school schedule.
For the boys in individual events, Desert Hills’ Carter Reynolds won the 110-meter hurdle crown, but Richfield’s Josh Thomas, who finished second to Reynolds in the 110’s, returned the favor in the 300-meter hurdles, winning in a time of 40.33 seconds. Thomas also won the boys’ long jump title with a leap of 20-09.50 feet.
Bradley Earl of Desert Hills won the 100-meter title, with Snow Canyon’s Keivontae Washington winning the 200-meter crown. Seth Dabb of Canyon View won the boys’ 400-meter title, giving the boys some variety in the sprinting events. Dabb also won the boys’ high jump crown over Richfield’s Thomas despite both great athletes amassing leaps of 6 feet 4 inches.
Desert Hills also won the boys’ 4 x 100 meter relay with Hurricane getting the crown in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
Brandon Williams of Orem won the boys’ 800-meter run title to round out winners.
For the girls, Orem’s Paige Young swept the 100 and 300-meter hurdle titles. Jaslyn Gardner of Enterprise earned her own sweep, winning the 100 and 200-meter dash titles while Cedar’s Jasie York won the 400-meter dash crown.
Desert Hills’ Kaylee Carter won the girls’ javelin title to round out individual winners.
