CHARLESTON, S.C.-Wednesday, BYU sophomore signal-caller Zach Wilson and Utah State junior quarterback Jordan Love were named to the College Football Performance Awards preseason watch list.
The two prodigious Beehive State collegiate passers are among 34 candidates for this award throughout Division I FBS college football.
Wilson, a product of Draper’s Corner Canyon High School, completed 65.9 percent of his passes for 1,578 yards, 12 touchdowns and three interceptions in 2018.
He also set the school record for the Cougars in passing efficiency (157.23) for a freshman quarterback. This is significant when one considers BYU has had such legendary passers in their program as Steve Young, Jim McMahon and 1990 Heisman trophy winner Ty Detmer, among others.
Meanwhile, Love is coming off a sophomore campaign which saw him complete 64 percent of his passes for 3,567 yards, 32 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Love was named as the Mountain West Conference’s preseason offensive player of the year July 23 as part of the conference’s media days at Henderson, Nev.
The winner of this award will be announced January 15, 2020.
