Yoeli Childs, TJ Haws, Earn All Preseason-WCC Honors; Cougars Picked Third in WCC

LAS VEGAS-Thursday, BYU men’s basketball was picked to finish third in the annual West Coast Conference preseason men’s basketball coaches poll at the conference’s media day at Las Vegas.

Seniors, forward Yoeli Childs and guard TJ Haws have also been named to the WCC’s all-preseason team.

The Cougars received 65 votes to finish third in the conference polls behind unanimous favorite Gonzaga (79 points, seven first-place votes) and second-place Saint Mary’s (75 points and three first-place votes).

Rounding out the WCC poll were Pepperdine in fourth, Santa Clara in fifth, San Francisco in sixth, Loyola Marymount in seventh, Pacific in eighth, San Diego in ninth and Portland in tenth.

Childs, a three-year starter, averaged 21.2 points and 9.7 rebounds last season while amassing 17 doubles in 2018-19.

Last season, Haws averaged 17.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest while he led the team in assists (5.1) and steals (1.2) per game.

The Cougars commence their season November 5 against Cal State Fullerton at the Marriott Center and the WCC season, January 4 at the Marriott Center against Loyola Marymount.
