Wasatch Wrestling Wins Its 23rd All-Time State Title Thursday

OREM, Utah-Thursday, dynastic Wasatch High School wrestling won its 23rd all-time state title, outlasting Payson 243.5-234.0 to win their second consecutive 5-A state title.

The Wasps received strong performances from their studs as junior River Wardle won the state title at 132 pounds, besting Farmington senior Parker Frasure by decision, 4-3. Wardle is a 3-time state champion in this classification.

Star senior Sammy Heywood concluded his Wasps’ athletic career on the mat by winning his third state title at 138 pounds. Heywood vanquished Brighton senior Anthonee Ouk by fall in a bout that took 5:19.

Finally, at 145 pounds, senior Stockton O’Brien won his fourth state title, routing Viewmont’s Moses Espinoza-Owens by major decision 16-5.

Wasps head coach Wade Discher won his fifth all-time state championship as well as the Wasps ensued in their dynastic run.

The Wasps won their fifth wrestling state title in the past six years with this victory.
