HEBER CITY, Utah-Saturday, the Wasatch Wasps’ dynastic wrestling program completed a successful weekend by posting an event-best 444.5 points at the 5-A Division A Divisionals at the Nest.
Viewmont placed 2nd with 279 points. Farmington (250 points) finished 3rd, Spanish Fork (231 points) finished 4th and Salem Hills (195 points) placed 5th.
Timpanogos (165.5) finished 6th, Timpview (156) finished 7th, Springville (146) finished 8th, Woods Cross (145.5) finished 9th and Provo (117.5) placed 10th.
Rounding out the finishers were Bountiful (98.5; 11th), Park City (83.5; 12th), Bonneville (62; 13th), East (39; 14th) and Cottonwood (11; 15th).
At 106 pounds, Wasatch freshman Parker Hayes bested Viewmont freshman Spencer Lee via injury.
Wasps sophomore Heath Clyde won the 113-pound title over teammate, freshman Ryder Robinson, by major decision at 11-1.
Senior Deklan Kelly took the 120-pound title by besting teammate, freshman Austin Kelly by decision, 11-4.
At 126 pounds, senior Treyson Davis routed Woods Cross sophomore Colton Erickson by multiple decision, 11-1.
In the 3rd place match at 132 pounds, junior River Wardle bested Viewmont junior Karson Rees via multiple decision, 10-2.
Senior Sammy Heywood was the winner at 138 pounds by virtue of multiple decision over Salem Hills sophomore Dawson Wood.
In the 9th place match at this classification, junior Cooper Scott overpowered Salem Hills junior Byron Jones.
At 145 pounds, senior Stockton O’Brien bested Springville senior Jace Witney by virtue of a fall to win the title at this classification.
At 160 pounds in the third-place match, sophomore Charlie Fassold bested Spanish Fork senior Brock Davis in a close call, earning the 6-5 win by decision.
At 170 pounds, senior Brock Lloyd routed Timpview senior Chase Biggs via decision, 11-7.
In the 5th place match at 170 pounds, sophomore Christian Slack downed Timpanogos junior Corbin Carlson by decision, 5-3.
The Wasps seek their 22nd all-time state title as the 5-A state tournament commences at Utah Valley University in Orem February 12 and 13.
