Wasatch Wrestling Competes Against Viewmont

HEBER CITY, Utah-Tuesday afternoon, No. 1 Wasatch High School wrestling hosted the No.4 Viewmont Vikings in a non-region Class 5-A bout at the Nest, earning a 48-31 victory over their stout guests.

The Wasps raced out to a 30-0 lead over Viewmont and withstood a late Vikings surge to gut out the impressive win.

To start things off, Tristan Ocana prevailed at 120 pounds by virtue of a forfeit for the Wasps. Declan Kelly took the win at 126 pounds also via a forfeit.

Incidentally, in an exhibition, Kelly wrestled against Viewmont’s Walker Vest at 126 pounds with Kelly earning the 10-3 victory.

Next, the No. 1 wrestler in 5-A at 126 pounds, River Wardle, bested Karson Rees of Viewmont by a fall.

Wasps star Sammy Heywood only used 18 seconds in vanquishing his Viewmont competitor. This earned Heywood wrestler of the match plaudits from Heber Valley Radio broadcasters Ty&Ty.

UVU commit Stockton O’Brien also earned a victory for the Wasps, solidifying his status as the No. 1 overall wrestler in Utah, regardless of classification.

Alexander Hendrix fell via a major decision to Viewmont’s Marcus Espinoza-Owens 13-2, giving the Vikings their first win of the competition. Viewmont posted another victory when Jeremy Evans bested Charlie Fassold.

Viewmont earned a third consecutive victory when Wasatch’s Christian Slack fell. Nevertheless, the Wasps bounced back when Brock Lloyd used a cradle pin to overpower Shandon Lindquist.

Alex Budd fell 11-5 at 195 pounds by virtue of an 11-5 decision and Ryder Robinson lost at 220 pounds.

Nevertheless, Wasatch secured the victory when at 106 pounds, Duncan Watt earned a second-period pin over Viewmont’s Spencer Lee. This gave the Wasps an insurmountable 42-31 lead.

To further cement the Wasps’ victory, the 113-pound title was earned by Heath Clyde.
