HURRICANE, Utah-Friday, Wasatch High School’s boys and girls track teams got out of the cold of the Heber Valley to compete at the Hurricane Invitational.
After the first day of competition, Cedar’s boys (40 points) and girls (38.5 points) each have the lead.
The Wasatch boys are in 14th place with 1 point and the girls are in fourth place with 12 points.
In the boys’ 1600-meter run, Josh Horner placed 28th (4:56.62) and Connor Weldon (5:12.06) finished 44th. Brock Coombs finished 50th (5:15.00), Luke Straddeck placed 51st (5:15.31), Luiz Bastos placed 74th (5:58.54) and Parker Webb finished 77th (6:07.15).
In the medley relay, Wasatch’s boys’ “A team” placed 10th (4:14.88) with this team consisting of Vic Ostergaard, Robbie Shallenburger, Luke Straddeck and Carson Guymon. The “B team” finished 12th in a time of 4:25.99. This team features Kaden Webb, Caleb West, Karston Berkley and Brock Coombs.
Finally, in the boys’ shot put, Jay Nelson finished 8th (40-11.50 feet).
For the girls, in the 1600-meter run, Abbie Randall placed fifth (5:22.06) and Hailey Ellis finished 28th (5:53.27). Madelyn King placed 30th (5:56.04), Savanna Dorough placed 38th (6:06.13), Sophia Burkemo finished 42nd (6:15.11) and Grace Neal placed 44th (6:19.16).
The Wasatch girls’ “A team” placed third in the medley (4:40.63) with the team consisting of Karissa Bingham, Sydney Hales, Sydney Price and Anna Baird. The “B” team finished closely behind in 6th place (5:07.45), featuring Emilia Chamberlain, Ellie Martindale, McKinley Raven and Grace Neal.
In the girls’ discus, Sydney Hiatt placed seventh (84-04 feet).
Finally, in the girls’ high jump, Mandy Belknap placed 16th (4 feet-8 inches), Miranda Ross finished 25th (4 feet-4 inches) and Sage Romney placed 28th (4 feet-4 inches).
The meet resumes at 9:00 am this morning.
