Wasatch Football Suffers 37-0 Loss To Salem Hills in 5-A Quarterfinals

SALEM, Utah-Reed Johnson returned a punt 77 yards for a score and added a 35-yard scoring reception as the Salem Hills Skyhawks routed Wasatch 37-0 Friday evening in the 5-A state football quarterfinals at Salem Hills High School.

Jordan Ware also added a pair of touchdown runs for the Skyhawks, who in their first season as a 5-A school, have advanced to the state semifinals at Rice-Eccles Stadium Friday November 15 at 11:00 am.

The Skyhawks will play the winner of the Olympus-Orem game, which was still ongoing at the conclusion of this game at the University of Utah.

In defeat, Kobe McPhie forced a fumble and netted an interception and Damien Skiby posted two more interceptions for the Wasps.

Netting offensive MVP honors for the Wasps this evening, per Ty & Ty on the broadcast, was star tailback Zak Thacker, who netted 25 carries for 88 yards.

Ty & Ty also named defensive back Sammy Heywood as the defensive player of the game as he blocked a Salem Hills PAT.

The Wasps, despite the loss, had a successful season, which finishes at 8-5. Wasatch advanced to the state quarterfinals in football for the first time since 2010 as well in getting to this point.
