Various Utah Collegians Named To Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla.-Thursday, various Utah collegiate football players were named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.

This is college football’s premier award for community service and is named in honor of former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel who won the 1996 Heisman Trophy, while leading the Gators to a national title that season.

This trophy honors those college football players “who serve others” and celebrates their positive impact on society and inspires greater service in the world.

The Utah-based nominees for this award are BYU senior defensive lineman Bracken El-Bakri, Utah junior linebacker Devin Lloyd and Utah State senior defensive lineman Justus Te’i.

El-Bakri has one career sack, one forced fumble, two tackles for a loss and 60 net tackles during his career with the Cougars.

Lloyd has 6.5 career sacks, one interception, two passes defensed, 11 tackles for a loss and 97 net tackles.

Te’i has three career sacks, 10.5 tackles for a loss and 118 net tackles.

The semifinalists for this award will be announced November 3 and the finalists on November 23.
