OREM, Utah-As was confirmed Sunday evening, Utah Valley men’s basketball has accepted an invitation to play in the College Basketball Invitational postseason tournament.
In so doing, the Wolverines will host the Cal State Northridge Matadors of the Big West Conference Tuesday at the UCCU Center.
This is Utah Valley’s third straight appearance in the CBI and the Wolverines’ fifth overall appearance in a postseason tournament.
The Wolverines continue to be among the most proficiently-shooting teams in the country.
Utah Valley is 17th nationally in field-goal percentage (48.5 percent) and 21st nationally in 3-point field goal percentage (38.5 percent).
Junior redshirt guard Jake Toolson (15.8 points per game) is the WAC player of the year and senior guard Conner Toolson (18 points, 4 rebounds per game in the WAC Tournament) was named to the all-tournament team for his heroics last week.
The Wolverines score 77.2 points per game and surrender 70.4 points per contest.
Utah Valley also sports a 24-9 record coming into this game. The 24 wins are a school record.
The Matadors come into this game at 13-20 and score 76.3 points per game and surrender 79.1 points per contest.
Senegalese national, redshirt freshman Lamine Diane (24.7 points, 11.3 rebounds per game) leads the Matadors. Sophomore guard Terrell Gomez (19.1 points per game) and junior guard Rodney Henderson Jr. (11.1 points per game) also have been solid for Cal State Northridge this season.
The Matadors are 2-0 all-time against the Wolverines, with both match-ups occurring in 2007.
