OREM, Utah-Thursday, Utah Valley men’s basketball (21-8, 10-4 in WAC play) hosts the Grand Canyon Antelopes (18-10, 10-4 in WAC play) at the UCCU Center as they commence their last home-stand of the season.
The proficient Wolverines continue to rank among the national leaders in field goal percentage (18th at 46.4 percent) and 3-point field goal percentage (15th at 38.7 percent).
Redshirt junior guard Jake Toolson (16.3 points per game) ranks 41st nationally in making 56.2 percent of his shots and is 37th in the country in free throw percentage (86.1 percent).
Per sports-reference.com, Toolson is the only player in the country to play in 20 or more games while shooting better than 55 percent from the field, 45 percent from three-point range and 85 percent at the foul line.
Since 1992, this feat has been accomplished only 20 times in Division I men’s basketball.
The Wolverines score 77.4 points per game and surrender 70.7 points per contest.
The Antelopes net 76.1 points per game and surrender 66.9 points per contest.
Junior guard Carlos Johnson (13.3 points, 4 rebounds per game) leads the Antelopes as does sophomore center Italian national Alessandro Lever (12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds per game).
Also scoring in double figures for Grand Canyon are redshirt senior forward Michael Finke (12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds per game) and sophomore guard Damari Milstead (10.3 points per game).
The Antelopes lead the Wolverines 9-4 all-time but the series is 3-3 all-time at Orem.
