BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-Friday through Sunday, Utah Valley baseball (10-30, 6-9 in WAC play) visits Cal State Bakersfield (17-26, 5-10 in WAC play) as the conference season ensues for both squads.
The Wolverines are in sixth place in the WAC while the Roadrunners are just a game behind and tied for seventh place.
With the exception of California Baptist, who is making the transition from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I, the top six squads in the WAC will advance to the conference tournament May 22-26 at Mesa, Ariz.
Senior outfielder Ryan Eastburn (a .371 batting average) and junior outfielder Alexander Marco (a team-best 6 home runs, 33 RBI) lead the Wolverines offensively.
Junior right-handed pitcher Jesse Schmit (4-5 record) is the Wolverines’ winningest hurler. His fellow junior right-handed pitcher Paxton Schultz leads Utah Valley in strikeouts (62).
The Roadrunners are led by junior infielder Tyler Jorgensen (a team-best .338 batting average, 2 home runs, 25 RBI).
Cal State Bakersfield’s pitching is paced by staff ace junior left-hander Edgar Barclay (a team-best 2.80 ERA and 5-2 record and is tied for the team lead with 80 strikeouts). Junior right-handed pitcher Darius Vines also has 80 strikeouts for the Roadrunners.
The Wolverines lead the Roadrunners 9-8 all-time.
