Utah State Athletics Leads Mountain West With 115 Scholar-Athletes in 2017-18

LOGAN, Utah-Tuesday, the Mountain West Conference announced its 2017-18 scholar athlete award recipients and Utah State led the league with 115 recipients within their various athletic programs.

The Mountain West Scholar-Athlete award is considered one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference.

For student-athletes to be eligible for this distinction, they must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution while also maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better and participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.

Among USU’s individual athletic programs, women’s track and field had the most recipients as 28 Aggies competing in this sport obtained that honor.

The Aggies also had the most athletes honored in the Mountain West in five sports. In addition to women’s track and field, these sports were women’s soccer (17), women’s cross country (16), men’s track and field (13) and men’s basketball (2).

Four USU athletes also obtained perfect 4.0 GPA’s while competing for their respective teams for the Aggies.

These included freshman women’s cross country runner Megan Bartholomew of Lehi, Utah, junior women’s cross country runner Kashley Carter of Mona, Utah, sophomore women’s cross country runner Sydney Jacobs of Orem, Utah and sophomore women’s soccer player Mealii Enos of Highlands Ranch, Colo.
