SALT LAKE CITY-University of Utah football senior linebacker Francis Bernard was named as the Pac-12 defensive player of the week Tuesday for his heroics in the Utes’ 30-12 rout of BYU August 29.
This is the first time Bernard, a former Herriman High School star, has received a Pac-12 weekly honor in his collegiate career.
Bernard returned an interception for a score against the Cougars and added 1.5 tackles for a loss.
He is currently on track to graduate with a degree in sociology in December.
Bernard and his Utes teammates return to action Saturday at 11:00 am against Northern Illinois.
