SAN FRANCISCO-Utah men’s basketball sophomore forward Timmy Allen was named to the Pac-12’s all-preseason 2nd team Tuesday during the conference’s men’s basketball media day.
The 6-6 205 pound forward out of Mesa, Ariz., averaged 12.2 points and 5.1 rebounds last season for the 17-14 (11-7 in Pac-12 play) Utes in 2018-19.
Pac-12 media picked the Utes to finish ninth in the conference with Oregon slated to win the conference by netting nine first-place votes and 291 overall points. Colorado also received nine first-place votes and 288 overall points while the Buffaloes have been picked to finish second in the Pac-12.
Washington was slated to finish third, Arizona fourth, USC fifth, Arizona State sixth, Oregon State seventh, UCLA eighth, Stanford 10th, Washington State 11th and California 12th.
The Utes return two starters in Allen and fellow sophomore forward Riley Battin. Sophomore guard Both Gach started 14 of the Utes’ 30 games last season and is also a projected starter, per Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak.
Freshman guard Eli Ballstaedt, the son of Wasatch High School boys basketball coach James Ballstaedt, is also on the squad this year.
