Utah Baseball Sees Two Receive Awards

SALT LAKE CITY-Despite a disappointing season for the Utah baseball team, the Utes still had some bright spots on the season.

One of them was junior outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. who earned all Pac-12 honors for the third straight season.

Keirsey, a San Diego product, was also named to the all-defensive team for the third time and ranked third in the conference with a .386 batting average.

Keirsey, who is expected to be drafted in June’s Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, led the Pac-12 and was 10th in Division I with 23 doubles, while also ranking sixth in Division I in doubles per game, at 0.46.

Keirsey was tied for third in the Pac-12 with 78 hits and tied for second in the league at hits per game with 1.56.

He was also tied for fourth in the league for triples (5), seventh in slugging percentage (.609) and eighth in league annals at on-base percentage at 44 percent.

Keirsey also led the Utes in runs scored per game with 47 and tied for the team lead with four home runs. Additionally, he added 22 RBI and went 7 of 12 in stolen base opportunities.

His teammate, sophomore Oliver Dunn, was an honorable mention all-Pac-12 selection.

Dunn, an infielder out of Salt Lake City, is the only Utes player to start all 55 games on the season and tied for seventh in the Pac-12 with four triples.

He ranked fifth in league annals with 145 assists and was tied for seventh in double plays, playing a role in 30 of them.

Dunn also led the Utes with 33 walks and nine stolen bases, excelling in 9 of 11 opportunities, and tied Keirsey for the team home run lead with four.

He was second on the team in batting average (.319) and also amassed 66 hits, 31 RBI, 39 runs scored and posted a .426 on-base percentage. This achievement represents Dunn’s first league honor as a collegian.
