LOGAN, Utah-Utah State University senior safety/linebacker Jontrell Rocquemore has been named as one of 179 semifinalists for the 2018 William V. Campbell trophy per a late Tuesday announcement by the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame.
This award recognizes an individual as the “absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.”
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on October 31 with each receiving an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete class.
These finalists will attend the 61st annual NFF awards dinner December 4 at New York City. The winner of the scholarship will receive a postgraduate scholarship valued at $25,000.
Previous winners of the award include NFL star quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning.
These semifinalists, each of whom have been nominated by their schools, must be seniors or graduate students in their final year of playing eligibility, have at least a 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), have “outstanding football ability” (as a first-team player or significant contributor) and demonstrated strong leadership/citizenship.
Rocquemore, a McKinney, Texas native, has recorded 28 total tackles this season, including 3.5 for a loss, one sack and two quarterback hurries.
Rocquemore is majoring in sociology and political science with a minor in law and constitutional studies. He is a three-time academic all-Mountain West recipient.
