LOGAN, Utah-Thursday, Utah State men’s basketball senior guard Sam Merrill was named as a second-team preseason All-American by The Sporting News per a release.
Additionally, NBC Sports has named Merrill as a preseason third-team All-American and a top-10 preseason candidate for the 2019-20 National Player of the year by si.com.
The sharpshooter out of Bountiful High School has also appeared on a regional cover of Street & Smith Basketball Magazine.
Joining Merrill on the second team are Cincinnati senior guard Jarron Cumberland, North Carolina freshman guard Cole Anthony, Georgia freshman Anthony Edwards and Duke sophomore guard Tre Jones.
Merrill is the reigning Mountain West Conference player of the year and Mountain West Conference MVP.
He netted 20.9 points and 4.2 assists per game last season for the Aggies.
