CEDAR CITY, Utah-Sunday, Southern Utah University football standout Lance Lawson was named as the College Sports Madness Big Sky Conference player of the week for his heroics in the Thunderbirds’ 45-38 overtime win over Stephen F. Austin Saturday.
Lawson, a versatile sophomore tailback out of Mesa, Ariz., hauled in 13 passes for 131 yards and a pair of scores in SUU’s first win of the season. He also threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to signal-caller Chris Helbig on a trick play for the Thunderbirds.
Presently, Lawson is SUU’s leading receiver on the season as he has hauled in 28 passes for 251 yards and a pair of scores.
The 1-2 Thunderbirds return to action Saturday as they visit Brookings, S.D. to face Top 10 FCS foe South Dakota State.
