CEDAR CITY, Utah-In news from Wednesday, Southern Utah men’s basketball added Illinois transfer Tevian Jones.
Jones, a native of Chandler, Ariz., has averaged 2.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game in two seasons for the Fighting Illini.
During his freshman campaign (2018-19) at Champaign, Ill., Jones netted a career-high 18 points as the Fighting Illini upset No. 13 Maryland 78-67. Jones connected on four 3-pointers to help Illinois knock off the Terrapins that day.
The 6-7 205-pound Jones has impressive size at the guard position, making him a match-up nightmare for many opponents.
Jones was a dynamic scorer in high school at Culver City, Calif., averaging 20.5 points and 9 rebounds per game for the Centaurs his senior season.
Jones is one of five transfers added by Thunderbirds head coach Todd Simon this off-season. Others include Nick Fleming (Highland C.C.), Aanen Moody (North Dakota), Yuat Alok (Central Florida) and Marquis Moore (Detroit Mercy).
