FARMINGTON, Utah-Monday, Southern Utah University redshirt freshman cornerback Carlton Johnson was named as the ROOT Sports Defensive Player of the week by the Big Sky Conference.
Johnson intercepted two passes, returning one for a score, as the Thunderbirds bested Idaho State 59-34 at Eccles Coliseum Saturday.
The native of Moreno Valley, Calif. has intercepted three passes and netted four pass breakups and 23 total tackles on the season.
Johnson is the Thunderbirds’ first Big Sky player of the week this season and the first in the program since quarterback Patrick Tyler was named as the offensive player of the week in November 2017.
