Rick Majerus Named To The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Per a Tuesday announcement, former University of Utah head men’s basketball coach Rick Majerus will be posthumously inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

Majerus is one of three coaches, as well as six players, to receive this honor.

The official enshrinement will occur November 24 at Kansas City, Mo. at the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Induction Celebration.

Majerus, a 1970 graduate of Marquette, was 517-216 (.705) as the head coach at Marquette (1983-1986), Ball State (1987-1989), Utah (1989-2004) and Saint Louis (2007-2012).

Other inductees in this class include head coaches Homer Drew (Bethel, Indiana-South Bend, Valparaiso) and Lute Olson (Long Beach State, Iowa, Arizona).

The players are Calbert Cheaney of Indiana, Duke’s Shane Battier, Terry Dischinger of Purdue, Ernie DiGregorio of Providence, UNLV’s Larry Johnson and Todd Lichti of Stanford.

Majerus led his squads to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances including the Utes’ run to the 1998 national championship game before falling to eventual national champion Kentucky.

While on the hill at Salt Lake City, Majerus not only lived at the University Park Marriott hotel near campus, but led the Utes to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and a record of 323-95 (.773).
