SALT LAKE CITY-Per a report from Baseball America’s J.J. Cooper, the Orem Owlz and Ogden Raptors may be at risk of losing their affiliation with Major League Baseball.
Negotiations are ongoing between Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball concerning the reduction of MLB-affiliated clubs during a Wednesday conference call, Cooper confirmed.
It is believed, Cooper stated, that MiLB will indicate an agreement to have 120 affiliated teams.
There are presently 239 MiLB affiliates in North America per milb.com.
As of November 2019, Baseball America reported that the Owlz and Raptors were among the teams listed to be removed per this proposal.
This is expected to primarily affect Rookie League squads, of which both Orem and Ogden are. Overall, 17 Rookie League squads were listed in the report.
