MINNEAPOLIS (AP)-Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck has filled the offensive coordinator vacancy on his staff by hiring Mike Sanford Jr. and promoting Matt Simon to share the role.
Sanford will also serve as quarterbacks coach. He was the offensive coordinator at Utah State in 2019 and the head coach at Western Kentucky for two seasons prior to that.
Simon will also continue as wide receivers coach. He called the plays for the Golden Gophers in their victory over Auburn in the Outback Bowl.
Kirk Ciarrocca was the offensive coordinator under Fleck seven seasons, including the last three at Minnesota before departing for Big Ten rival Penn State.
